Those who have Doshas or planetary afflictions in their birth chart can reduce their negative effects by doing Poojas to the Gods on particular days.

Hindus worship many Gods. A comprehensive Hindu Gods list comprises 33 crore deities. Hindus also believe that each day of the week is associated with a particular God.

Let us see which Gods one needs to worship on different days of the week.

 Sunday

On Sunday/Ravivar, people worship the Sun as Lord Surya or Suryanarayana. Many observe a fast on this day. They also chant Surya Mantras. Red is the color for Sunday. People who undertake vrat/fast eat just one meal, that too before sunset. They avoid salt, oily, and fried dishes.

One should offer red color flowers during worship. People also put a tilak of red sandalwood paste on the forehead. One’s body and surroundings should be very clean during the fast. Sunday Vrat can help in fulfilling our desires. It is good for people with skin diseases. Some give alms to the poor on this day.

 Monday

Hindus worship Lord Shiva on Monday/Somavar. The day has a special connect for him. Devotees worship at Shiva temples and conduct Poojas like Ardhanarishwara Pooja. They chant the Mantra Om Namah Shivaya continuously and read the Shiva Purana.

Monday is also dedicated to the Moon or Lord Chandra. Unmarried women observe a fast on this day to get good husbands. The married ones do it for a happy and prosperous family life. The fast begins at sunrise and ends at sunset. People eat food only after the evening prayers. They worship Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati, on Monday. Fasting on Mondays in Shravan month is very auspicious.

If Amavasya or no moon day falls on a Monday, it is highly auspicious. The day is called Somavati Amavasya. Mondays in the month of Shravan (July – August) are auspicious in North India, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. People perform special Poojas for Shiva on Mondays in temples as well as homes. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, Mondays in Kartik month (October – November) are auspicious. In Tamil Nadu, Mondays in Karthigai month (November – December) are auspicious.

 Tuesday

Tuesday is dedicated to many celestial figures like Mars, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, Goddess Kali, and Lord Hanuman. Many Hindus visit Devi and Hanuman temples. People observing fast do not consume food containing salt at night.

The fast is usually dedicated to the monkey god, Hanuman, and the planet Mars/Mangal. Tuesday is also called Mangalvar after Mangal/Mars, which rules the day. Mars can cause problems in a person’s life, if afflicted. Fasting helps ward off the adverse effects of Mars. Red is the color for this day.

Hanuman is not worshipped on Tuesday in all regions. For example, in South India, people worship Muruga mainly. But devotees of Hanuman worship him on Tuesday. They recite the Hanuman Chalisa on this day.

 Wednesday

Wednesday is dedicated to Budha, or planet Mercury and also Lord Vithal, an avatar of Lord Krishna. In some regions, people worship Vishnu. It’s a good day for starting new ventures. Those who observe Vrat on Wednesday can be blessed with fortunes. People also give alms to the poor on this day.

Some propitiate Budha as he can bring success in worldly pursuits and bestow wisdom. Budha can give us a sharp intellect and proficiency in the arts and sciences. People worship him for intelligence, communication skills, writing skills, and success in education, business, and commerce.

Thursday

Thursday/Brihaspatiwar is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Brihaspati, who is the Guru of the Devas. Thursday is also called Guruvar. In some regions, people visit Hanuman Temples on Thursdays. Milk, ghee, etc., are used for the Poojas. Only one meal is consumed, that too dishes made of milk products. Hindus read Srimad Bhagavad Purana on this day.

Friday

People worship planet Venus (Shukra) and the Mother Goddesses – Durga, Mahalakshmi, and Annapurneshwari. They distribute sweets, and those who are fasting eat only at night.

Shukra bestows happiness and material wealth. Shukra’s period in one’s astrological chart is the luckiest and most productive period.

Worshipping the forms of Adi Shakti – Durga, Kali, and other forms – on Fridays is very auspicious. Devotees in India and Nepal flock to Shakti temples on this day. Most devotees wear white-colored clothes on this day. Shukravar fast begins at sunrise and ends at sunset.

 Saturday/Shanivar

Saturday is dedicated to planet Shani. Hindus observe Vrat on this day to ward off Shani’s malefic influence in their horoscope. Black is the color for Saturday, and people flock to Shani temples or Navagraha shrines. They eat food only once during the day. They also chant Shani Mantra to please Shani and get his blessings.

Hindus fear Shani as he can cause many problems in life and create obstacles and delays. So they observe a fast on Saturday to avoid such things. They also worship Lord Hanuman, as he is believed to protect his devotees from Shani’s wrath. Black is the color for Saturday.

One can worship these Gods at home or in the temple. Many devotees, in fact, have Hindu Gods’ statues or idols in their homes to do Pooja and other rituals in an earmarked space.
