Arsenal defeats Liverpool and stays top of the Premier League table

Arsenal are back on top of the Premier League table after a thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening, leading three times in the game and being pegged back twice.

Mikel Arteta is doing a fine job in charge of the Gunners an their early-season results show how far the Spaniard has taken them, with them now even leading Manchester Cityin the early-season title race standings.

The Gunners were lively from the off and led within a minute through Gabriel Martinelli, taking advantage of the Reds' unusual vulnerabilities this season and exploiting Trent Alexander-Arnold's weaknesses at right-back.

Arteta's side were playing with a real swagger early on and buoyed on by a lively home crowd, but as the first half wore on the Reds grew into the game. By the time Darwin Nunez levelled for Jurgen Klopp's side with 10 minutes of the first half still to be played, they were more than deserving of being back on terms.

Bukayo Saka bags twice as Arsenal down Liverpool
Bykayo Sakaensured that Arsenal went in at the break ahead when he tapped in from close range on the end of a lethal counterattack, assisted perfectly by Martinelli.

But Liverpool came back again and drew level less than 10 minutes into the second half. Roberto Firmino was clinical when put in on goal by Diogo Jota, perfectly finding the bottom corner when in to the left of goal.

The hosts were given a penalty when Jota was deemed to have fouled Jesus. Saka stepped up and although Alisson guessed right and went towards the ball, Saka's effort was perfectly placed and beat the Brazilian nonetheless.
